What is the job situation three months after graduating for University students in the European Union? And for students who participated in some Erasmus+ mobility projects? According to the statistics, the Erasmus+ Program has an impact on students’ successful careers. We will tell you more in this article.
Erasmus+ : additional value for your CV
The Erasmus+ (or Erasmus Plus) is a program funded by the European Commission that allows higher education students and school staff to expand their training in any of the member countries of the European Union (for more info visit the program’s official website). It records more participants every year and it is not surprising when you realize the main benefits of being part of an international mobility program.
But there is more: a recent study has shown that students who take part in one of the Erasmus+ programs have a higher rate of employment after finishing their studies compared to students who do not.

More chances to get a job
The main motivation for many students to participate in Erasmus+ Programme is to improve their chances of employment. And studies show that they are making a good choice for their future: a recent report by the EU Commission claims that almost 80% of exchange students find a job within three months after graduation thanks to their experience abroad.
And that’s not suprising at all. Nowadays, Erasmus+ is more recognized even by the companies, which have started to understand the importance of hiring an employee who has worked for a company abroad. Indeed, 30% of employers even make it a basic requirement for the job. Candidates who did an Erasmus+ experience have gained specific competencies and acquired significant skills for their professional career:
- Facing new challenges: this quality is highly ranked by employers and is one of the skills greatly improved by students who have openness and curiosity about new work challenges.
- Greater tolerance: in our increasingly cross-cultural workplaces, a greater tolerance towards the personal values and behaviour of others is well appreciated.
- Personal confidence: confidence leads to an enhanced ability to tackle the challenges of work and life and it also increases professional responsibility.
- Problem-solving: decision making and problem solving ability improve during the international mobility experience and they are widely regarded as basic for employment.
Better a Traineeship
Even though every situation, person and experience is unique and it’s not possible to generalize, all the skills mentioned above are common in students who have been part of an Erasmus+ exchange. And this is even more true if we consider Traineeship or a Vocational Training abroad. According to the Erasmus Impact Study, taking advantage of this program has a big long-term impact on your future. And you, are you ready to make this step for your successful career?
