From 16 to 20 of May 2018 INTERMOBEX hosted in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria some representatives of the Ausbildungszentrum-Bau of Hamburg (Germany) for an interesting Erasmus+ VET Staff Mobility Project about “Theorical and Practical Training in the field of Construction”.
The team that we accompanied during 3 days for a tour of local training centres and companies focused on building sector was composed by:
- Mr. Torsten Rendtel – General Manager
- Mr. Matthias Kloß – Manager of Adult Education
- Mr. Dirk Schadewald – Trainer
- Mrs. Patricia Sobrido Antunez – Erasmus Coordinator

DAY 1
The first day of mobility, after having picked up the group at the airport, it was hold an informal Welcome Meeting for the completion of projects documents and to summarize the activities of the following days (see Programme attached).
DAY 2
The second day of mobility, we brought our guests to visit the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción (Construction Labour Foundation), a benchmark entity in the building sector in Spain committed since 1992 to provide companies and employees alike the resources to be more professional, secure, qualified and with a more successful future ahead. This is the ultimate goal of the union of Confederación Nacional de la Construcción (CNC), CCOO de Construcción y Servicios and Federación de Industria, Construcción y Agro(UGT-FICA), which all together form this joint non-profit organization.
There we met the Foundation Director for the Canaries, Mrs. Delia Medina, and the Responsible of Training, Mrs. Elena Sosa Martinez. They explained to the participants what is the Foundation labour about, what kind of training they offer and how they carry it out. Then, they drove the group to one of the construction sites where they provide practical training to see students “at work”. Our German guests really appreciated the visit, during which they could discover techniques and materials unknown or not used in Germany, but above all they were surprised by the very large number of women working in the field (about the 50% of the total number of students and trainees!).

To complete the day in the best way, we enjoyed a typical Canarian lunch on the beach promenade of Las Canteras, for moving after that in the historical centre of the city, called Vegueta, for a short touristic tour.
DAY 3
The third day of activity, we visited two construction sites of two important Canarian building companies:
The company “Grupo Pérez Moreno, S.A.” guided us to the construction yard of an housing building in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria; there the Chief of the Construction Unit, Mr. Luis Pérez, explained us the project and accompanied the group during the whole visit.
The company “Grupo Satocan” opened us the doors of a big construction yard of touristic residential housing located in Arguineguín, in the south of the island, where we met the Responsible of Labour Risk Prevention, Mrs. Camen Socorro, and the Chief of Works, who showed us the project and guided the visit.

DAY 3
The last day of mobility, our guests enjoyed free time to discover deeper the island of Gran Canaria and to have some relax in the beautiful Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.
Project results
As they stated during the activities, our visitors could appreciate construction methods, techniques and materials that they didn’t know or use in Germany until that moment (read here the full review of Mr. Matthias Kloß – Manager of Adult Education). This experience opened them new horizons about how and whether they can improve their training system, it allowed them to establish good contacts with relevant local partners and to learn a lot about teaching and training in the building sector in Gran Canaria.
